Acceptance: Wellspring Of Emotional Healing

Acceptance – of self, others and the world at large – seems often in short supply these days. Importantly, these three are always one: true acceptance flows in all directions.
Rejection of of self, others and the wide world – while rewarding in a direction Dr. David Burns calls the joys of battle –  is also the root of our emotional anguish. Acceptance is always the wellspring from which lasting emotional wellness flows.
In this post I share two contemporary Zen stories about acceptance which, to my eye, shed light on it’s role in successful psychotherapy – and wellness itself.
